Week 17 in Satélite Hermosillo!!!

Okay… I don´t know how long I´ve been here… that´s kind of sad… its my 3rd transfer 5th week we´ll just say that.

This week was great! Did you know that practically everyone goes to the beach when it is Easter here in México?? I didn´t either. But we had fun. We took pictures in the street where normally there´s all kinds of traffic and honking of horns and stuff and this weekend was complete bliss. It was a little creepy… so we knocked on a TON OF DOORS!!! In weeks and transfers past we knocked lots but I really think this week was a thousand or so… hahahaha!!! just kidding… but at least a couple hundred. We had 6 new investigators that resulted from this. BOOM!!! Easter weekend and we´re completely enjoying our Easter Sunday with new people!!! WHOOOHOOO!!! I really liked it. We were completely wiped out it was hilarious.

For all of you who watched the women´s conference this week wasn´t it good!!! I learned alot more about love and service for otras a ton this week!!! Me and my companion also taught the Relief Society class this week on the talk from Octubre last year from Elder Montoya (I don´t really know what its called in English) but… IT WAS SUPER GOOD!!! It was about trials and tests that will come but the Lord blesses us on our way through the gospel. We know the answer to our tests is in the gospel… sometimes its a little bit hard to accept it but we know where to look. But in this talk he talked about helping others to find as well where to look and find the answers and comfort needed. He tells us of our responsibilites as members and as persons blessed with the knowledge… I´d like to share them with ya´ll.
1) Walk the second mile
2) SMILE!!!
3) Give compasion to others
4) Invite others to come to church
Walk the second mile… be with others and help them in their times of grief… we can even sacrifice the time we have to help others. I liked the temple example he gave about a mam who sacrificed his time in the temple for a couple to be sealed together for time and all eternity. HOW COOL!!!
Smile!!! I´ve seen this change a lot of people´s days here in the mission. When we are walking down the street and smiling sometimes people ask us why we are so happy and truthfully it makes contacting a whole lot easier. We never know when someone is having a bad day but we can be the change in their day through our smiles.
Compassion… although we can never understand exactly what another person feels or is feeling or has felt we can show compassion to them in their time of need and just like the first step we can be there for them. He talked about the Priesthood and their responsiblitites to teach and comfort others. I liked that… sometimes I wish I had the Priesthood but then I realize that its not for them… but for all of us. To have the priesthood is to be selfless. I think its better for the men to have the priesthood.
And as well to invite others to come to church… we do not realize the burdens that others have or what they need. However the Savior does. He felt it all. Through His atonement we can feel more of His love IF we apply it to our lives. There are few other places that I can go or have gone to where I have felt the Spirit and the Savior really lift my burdens. For this reason we need to invite others to go to church … we need to go to church. I cannot go for much time with all of the burdens which I have everyday… I need to relieve them. I allow the Savior to do this when I go to church and I do MY part. I know that the Saviour can bless our lives… if we let Him. I know He can take our temptations, our trials and sadness if we let Him. I know that Jesus Christ is My Redeemer, I know His sacrifice was not for nothing… because I am applying it, I hope and pray that each and every one of us can truly apply the Atonement in our lives every day and change. President Robinson tells us every time he teaches us that the invitation of the missionaries of repentance is of Jesus Christ… not of the missionaries, and the message which we bring… which HE has offered us is to change. How cool is that???? This time of year with Easter we celebrate the Savior– Jesus Christ and His sacrifice for us as well as His resurrección. We also have the opportunity this week to listen to the prophet and apostles. Prophet and apostles of Him– Jesus Christ. I hope that all that can will go and listen toconference this week and will apply in their lives what they learn. Listen with a question in your mind and prayer in your heart and the Lord will help you in all that you have. I am so grateful for the opportunity to be here and for the joy that I have seen in the eyes of those that truly apply the teachings of Jesus Christ in their lives.  Thank you as always to all that are helping my family and allowing me and helping me to be here. The Lord truly is blessing us.
With so much love for you all up there in Idaho… and Utah and Wyoming and everywhere else…
Hermana Ashby

Say hello to the family, friends and ward  for me!!! LOVE YA!!!

Week 16 in Satélite Hermosillo!!!

Okay… well this week was super good if for nothing else but the baptism of Mario!!! WWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Saturday we went to his house in the morning to check on him to see how he was doing and how things were going to go in his baptism because we had asked him who he wanted to talk in his baptism and everything he was super excited!!! He was ready to go right then and there!!! It was really funny! The baptism was set to be at 5 pm, we went to the church to clean it and get everything but the thing is that we couldn´t open the baptismal font to fill it and it takes 2 hours to fill it up normally. Well we got at the church at 3 to start filling it up but couldn´t open it because we didn´t have keys and normally its not locked. We called 3 different wards and noone was in town because of Pascua. We called everyone we knew and last but not least we called other hermanas and they told us that there aren´t any keys to the font. We had to open it with a credit card!!!! After we learned of this it had passed about an hour and to open the door (it was a little hard) but that took another 15 minutes, so at 4:20 we started to fill the font and we prayed immediately because normally the font takes 2 hours and we had 40 minutes until it was time for the baptism of Mario!!! I don´t think I´ve ever been so stressed for time because we hadn´t cleaned the capilla either so we cleaned it in a miraculous 20 min. and with many other prayers the font was more than full after one hour. We didn´t start the baptism at 5… but at 5:30!!! BOOM!!! Blessings from the Lord!!! Mario was so excited because also the water was lukewarmish… but it wasn´t freezing!!!! He bore his testimony and truthfully… I cried. I think he´ll be bishop or something in a few years. Despite all the other crazy things that happened this day that would have prevented Mario from getting baptized, through faith and prayer… WE DID IT!!!! Octavio a new member that got baptized a month ago baptized Mario and yesterday he was confirmed. It was a good day!!! I learned a lot… and only in 2 hours. We had other spiritual experiences this week as well, we found a new family that we´re teaching and they are pretty cool. They have 3 daughters. We are still searching and searching. Truthfully I´ve never had much trouble to enter into a house, but here its a little difficult. But that´s okay, hopefully one day someone will let us in and they will want to listen to the restored gospel, the gospel of Jesus Christ. We are searching for people that want to change their lives through the gospel, want to be better people, happier and blessed. I know that more and more as we search that the Lord will bless us in our efforts. The Lord always blesses us when we are faithful to Him, sometimes (oftentimes) we have to suffer a little bit, but the blessings ALWAYS COME!!!! I know that to be true… don´t mean for all of these letters to be so preachy… SORRY!!! But really though!!! THE GOSPEL OF JESUS CHRIST BLESSES OUR LIVES SO MUCH!!! I am so grateful to be here and to bring this message to others. Thank you for all your prayers and love!!! We´re feeling it!!

Con mucho amor por ustedes de aquí en Hermosillo,

Week 15 in Satélite Hermosillo!!!

BUENO…. I hope everyone had a great and grand week and that all is well with you and that the Lord has blessed you much this week!!!

This week *drumroll please* Mario will be baptized this Saturday!!! WOOOJOOO!!! HE IS SO STINKING COOL!!! He is so excited to be baptized this week and has made a lot of friends in the ward. They are really good with him. My companion was a little bit sick this week so we weren´t able to work a ton… I absolutely hate being in the house… there is nothing to do. However I read a lot of my scriptures… and that´s always fun!!! I have finally finished the Book of Mormon in Spanish!!! BOOYAH!!!! It only took me 7 1/2 months… but I did it!!! Granted… I didn´t understand anything from the first half and only half of the second part… but I DID IT!!!! When my companion couldn´t leave I left with members to visit Mario. He is so ready for his baptism. He was having second thoughts on Saturday and told us that he prayed because he wasn´t sure if he wanted to go to church on Sunday. He prayed “con todo (su) esfuerza) to know if the church is true and the Lord gave him an answer again… the same as before. The church is true, he is going to learn more on the way and yes he needed to go to church as well as be baptized. BOOM!!! When he shared this experience with us I was nailed to the floor. I didn´t want to move because the Spirit was so strong. He talked about the efforts of Satan, feelings of unsurety and fear. Fear is from Satan… only him.. not of God. The Holy Ghost testifies of all truth and helps us when we are in need of the truth. If we simply have an answer for our Heavenly Father that is sufficient for us, He will give it to us in the moment that we need it!!! I absolutely love prayer. I love talking with my Heavenly Father personally with all my feelings and questions and thoughts out to Him. Sometimes we feel that no one else understands us but He does. I know that´s true. I know that the Savior loves us more than we can imagine. I know that this church… The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is true and is the only church where God is at the head, He is the one leading us through His prophets, His revelation for us– His Children. I know that to be true. I know the Savior Jesus Christ truly is the Savior. He bore everything that I can´t. Through His atonement we can overcome whatever trial that I have and can accomplish what He needs us to do. I am so grateful as always to be here… thank you. I love you all and am praying for you everyday. BE GOOD AND MAKE RIGHT CHOICES!!!

With so much stinking love for ya right here in the desert of México,

Hermana Ashby

Week Fourteen in Satélite Hermosillo!!!

Okay… sorry don´t have a ton of time today… but firstly…

I hope you have a great day and receive many blessings because lots of prayers are coming for ya this week!!! This week was super great… we have been knocking so stinking hard. Hermana Abadia is definitely different from Hermana Abanto… I miss her so much!! But Hermana Abadia is really good as well. Truly was prepared from the Lord for the gospel. Also my birthday was great… we ate with Family Windsor (they are Americans) and we had ice cream with them. They didn´t know that it was my birthday but put in candles that said 21… que viejita!!! The Lord also blessed in this day because we have 2 new investigatores this week and one of them I think really can progress. Also Mario is super stoked for his baptism!!! March 19th… ARE YA READY FOLKS?!?!?!?!?! He is now in 1 Nephi 30!!! He is reading more than I am!!! He is super super cool!!!! I don´t really have any other news other than that… sorry… I know I´m super boring… but we had transfers this week and lots of meetings… but it was a good week!!! I LOVE YOU ALL AND AM PRAYING FOR YOU ALL!!! HOPE ALL IS WELL AND THAT YOU HAVE GOOD BIRTHDAYS AND ARE APPLYING THE ATONEMENT OF JESUS CHRIST IN YOU LIVES!!! I know that the Lord will bless us if we will just ask… sometimes beg. The process of receiving blessings is also a process of us changing more in line of His gospel. He will bless us more and more each day if we will just obey Him and His commandments. Sometimes its not as easy as that sounds… but it is so worth it… I know that. I love you all and hope you have a great week!!! BYE!!!

Week THIRTEEN in Satélite Hermosillo!!!

Okay… how did birthdays go??? If you all took pictures please send them… I love you so stinking much and am wishing and praying that you all had a good birthday week!!! This week was super cool! Mario is SUPER COOL!!! He read all of the past chapters of Gospel Principles and is read the introducion of the Book of Mormon and is now in 1 Nephi 13. He is reading more than I am… and we study for 2 hours every morning!!!  He now has a baptismal date for March 12th!!! WOOOOHOOO!!! In other news, we had transfers today and my new companion is Hermana Abadia, I was with her in Caborca. She is the trainer of Sister Harman so we know eachother pretty welll. However I think I´m going to be learning a lot from her. We have a ton of work to do. We have a lot of people right now that are finally progressing!!! I´m not sure what ya´ll changed in your prayers but KEEP IT COMING!!! We are seeing many miracles. We have 3 new families that we are now teaching that we found last week. Hermana Abanto was super sad because we knew that she would be leaving the area because she´s been here for 3 transfers. The Lord is being very very very kind!!!

Not quite sure what else has happened this week… OH!!! SOMETHING VERY INTERESTING. The sun and water here changed my hair color to a lightish blonde color. So we decided to dye my hair to make me look more Mexican. The first time it went through the hair color was the same. So we wanted to go a little bit darker and my hair went ORANGE!!! Like GINGER ORANGE!!! Mom… you always said you wanted a redhead… well you had one for like 3 hours. It was horrible… I cannot be a ginger. So we dyed it again… BLACK!!!! Its super super weird, however more and more people think que soy Méxicana!!! QUE BUENO, NO?? So its really cool, I actually really like it. I just feel bad for my hair. We will go to get it cut this week. I also got letters from… I think the Young Women´s???MUCHAS GRACIAS!!! To answer all of the questions that you asked me… YES IT IS VERY HOT RIGHT NOW!!! But it will be getting more and more close to 120 degrees in Farenheit. I am seriously loving it here. Thank you so much for all you do… hope you´re all doing great!!! Let me know what I can do to pray for you. Love ya!!
