Firstly…. HAPPY BIRTHDAY MICHAELA AND AARON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hola mi hermosa familia!!!
Espero que todo esta muy bien con ustedes… This week was really kind of fun!! We knocked on so many doors this week!!! I have never ever ever been rejected by so many people in my life!!! It was awesome!! We knocked on so many doors and nobody wanted to listen to us. However the Lord gave us little tender mercies as to His love for us. He is so very kind. We had many opportunities for service and so many cool experiences this week as well. The truth is that it really was a great week!!! We don´t have any new investigators yet… but we´re working our tails off here!!! We really are doing great! I don´t want Hermana Abanto to leave!!! We only have 2 more weeks here together. I hope that the next companion I have in this area loves to work as much as we do because this area is awesome… just needs a lot of elbow grease!! We were talking about the little miracles that we´ve seen in ourselves and in the other companion (…. I think that makes sense… if not LO SIENTO!!) and it really is amazing to stand back and notice the difference of 10 weeks behind us!! This area has taught me a lot about working harder and harder not just physically but spiritually as well! Thanks mom for all the spiritual quotes!! I love them!! I shared them with my companion just now and she loves them as well… she also says “Hello, Mamá Ashby!!” I´ll send pictures of us together. Truth be told, I am seriously terrible about bringing my camera with me and all of the pictures are from her camera… there´s a few of my face in them with big eyes. But want to know something weird?? My eyes are green!!! They are not blue AT ALL!!! For the past uhhh….. 7 semanas… they are super super green!!! Sometimes my companion says they look blue and I get excited and then she takes a picture…. but they aren´t. Also today is the Cumpleaños de HERMANA ABANTO!!! We had a zone activity today and there was cake… its a bit of tradition I think to smash the face of another into the cake and then give kisses on the cheek to others… obviously Hermana Abanto couldn´t do that with the Elders so… she gave us lots!!! I still have cake in my hair right now… its awesome!! Also there´s photos of the other Hermanas and a fan… because its a little bit toasty here… so that was great as well.
Pray for María Jesús… she hasn´t gone to church and is struggling a bit right now. Pray for her to obtain an answer as to the truthfulness of the gospel. Pray for her family so that they can one day be eternal. I love the mission… every prayer is for someone else. When we do pray for ourselves it is that the Holy Ghost will guide and direct us to find those that want to change their lives and are ready to accept the gospel of Jesus Christ. Pray for us for these things!!! Pray for the Spirit. In all that we do, when we obey, when we read and in everything that we do, we do it so the Spirit can testify and help us in those everyday things of the love our Savior has for us. I know the church is true!! I hope you are all emplifying your own testimonies as I am here in Hermosillo!! This truly is the best time of my life!!! I´m grateful for the knowledge which we have of a loving Heavenly Father that truly wants for us to return to His presence again.
Thank you for all the love, prayers and for your faithfulness!!!
I love you so much!!!
Thanks mom for writing me little thoughts throughout the week!!! I love it!!!
Aaron´s concert… CONGRATS!!! Sorry about the whole fire alarm thing… but I am so proud of you! I hope that Michaela and Colton are also good with everything. I hope Colton is preparing well for his mission mentally, spiritually and physically!!! The mission is super hard but is super great!!! It really is the most spiritual high that I have ever had in my life and can´t wait for you to experience this!!! I hope you want to still!!! Pray, read, attend church for 3 hours, study, go to the temple often, eat right, run at least 2 times in the week (you´ll be doing this alot) and pray to have the Spirit with you everyday. Michaela, I hope you are preparing and listening to the Spirit as well as to the things you need to do in the future. I know that the Savior loves you so much and has a great and grand plan for you more than you can imagine! I hope you are searching for Him in the right places. If I´m learning another thing here is that true happiness in the gospel, in obeying, in having the Spirit with you… there is such a great protection provided in the gospel!! Pray, read, attend church for 3 hours, study and go to the temple often. There is a special Spirit there, read your patriarchal blessing!! It is so beautiful and helps a ton!! Mom, keep strong, I know that many times your exhausted and run out of energy, stressed emotionally, physically and spiritually. However the Lord is so good to us. Thank you for all that you have given me and for the time that I have to be here in the mission. I hope that you are receiving many blessings from the Lord in this time. I know that the Lord will continue to bless you. I watched my favorite video in the temple a couple weeks ago… I don´t remember if I told you or not. Its the one with the repentant Eve. I´ve been thinking about this video a lot and about the Savior and His hand in our lives. His love for us and our part in making it back to live with Him!! I know that He lives and that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints is His church. He is the head, He is in charge, He is the truth and the way to eternal life, through His Atonement, the only things we need to do are have faith in Him, repent, baptized, recieve the gift of the Holy Ghost and Endure to the End!!! That´s it!!! We received the Liahona from the general conference this week and I´ve been studying it a ton… but I like a quote in the talk from Linda S. Reeves titled “Worthy of our Promised Blessings”
Sisters, I do not know why we have the many trials thatwe have, but it is my personal feeling that the reward isso great, so eternal and everlasting, so joyful andbeyond our understanding that in that day of reward,we may feel to say to our merciful, loving Father, “Wasthat all that was required?” I believe that if we coulddaily remember and recognize the depth of that loveour Heavenly Father and our Savior have for us, wewould be willing to do anything to be back in Theirpresence again, surrounded by Their love eternally. What will it matter, dear sisters, what we suffered hereif, in the end, those trials are the very things whichqualify us for eternal life and exaltation in the kingdomof God with our Father and Savior?
OH MY GOODNESS GRACIOUS!!! I HAVE BEEN HERE FOR 6 MONTHS!!!
Hola mi hermosa familia!!!
Well… nothing much has happened to tell you the truth. We went to the temple and that was good. I got the last part completely correct in spanish!!! I was sooooo proud of myself!!! The first time I needed a little bit of help but this time was better. We also found a new investigator who is seriously super cool!!! Her name is Vivi. She is the daughter of less active member who we have been visiting. She sincerely has been prepared by the Lord. We asked her in the first lesson to come to church with us. She told us that she can´t becuse she has to work on Sundays but if she didn´t have to work she would go. We promised her that the Lord will bless her with other opportunities if she would just look. It was so cool because the next day she met a new person that told her about some new job opportunities in the area and that she would have Saturdy nd Sunday off. IT WAS SOO COOL!!! THE NEXT DAY!!! We were so sure of ourselves, not quite sure why. But I knew that the Lord would help her get a new job. We also moved chapels this week because our needs construction. We aren´t quite sure why… because its a pretty good looking chapel. However we are now meeting in another chpel that is little bit further away than normal. We also are meeting at 3-6 pm. It was super interesting because absolutely no one from our area went to church yesterday. We were doing so good too. We had a lot of the less actives going to church and our investigtors too. But yesterday was a little bit depressing. However we are not giving up. This means that Hermana Abanto and I won´t be having any baptisms together, however we have been working like crazy in this area. We are not going to give up. We are going to be walking all of our area this week so we cn find other colonias that are private residences. Thats kind of the hard part about this area is tht its a whole bunch of private residences. We´ve only been working in 2 areas that we knew weren´t private. However the two areas people have been working there for so long that pretty much everyone else has heard the gospel discussions and don´t want to progress. So we are starting something new!!! I´m always one for making new traditions right? 🤔 I feel good about this though. I think the Lord will answer our prayers. We just need to have a few new blisters to prove our dedication and faith. I´ve been learning a lot about faith these last few weeks. President and Sister Robinson gave us a book thats called “Invocndo los Poderes Celestiales” written by Grant Von Harrison. I´m not quite sure what its called in english… possibly “Invoking Heavenly Powers”??? I don´t know…. BUT IT IS SOOOOOO GOOD!!! I invite all of you guys to read it. I thought I had faith here in the mission field, but the more I read it the more I recognize I don´t have much faith and what faith really is. Its kind of like “The Miracle of Forgiveness” you know as you read it more and more and no important if you have small sins or grand sins that you feel like you are one of the most horrible humans on the planet??? ITS LIKE THAT!!! ONLY ABOUT FAITH!!! Its really good…
Anyways… we are working super duper hard, we have plans to change this area. Hopefully with a little bit of faith, prayer and elbow grease we can chnge things around here. This is my prayer for this week.
What I learned:
Faith is more than just believing without seeing
When we ask… He listens
We always need to change and progress
Sometimes we need trials so that we can comprehend the need to change.
I love you all!!!
Hope everything is great!!!
I pray for you daily…and nightly… and in lessons… and when blessing food!!! LOVE YA LOTS!! 😍😄😘
Well, this week I learned a ton!!!
We worked our tails off this week!!! We had transfers and we have a newbie with Hermana Martin. She´s cool. We contacted a ton of buses… the first 2 were a little bit scary… but after those the others were a piece of cake. We had to stop visiting a couple of our investigators because they weren’t progressing and that always stinks because you get really attached to the people here. It was interesting because we talked with two of them as to why we couldn´t visit anymore. They were really understanding but one of them the wife started to cry. She knows that all of these teachings and the gospel of Jesus Christ is true but her husband doesn´t want us to continue teaching them. So that one was pretty difficult. And to make matters more fun, we stopped and talked with 3 of the people in one day!!! It was so sad. I am not quite sure if I´ve had that much of an emotional rollercoaster in the mission thus far. Hermana Abanto and I were pretty bummed because well… we had just stopped with 3 people and were really really sad. We were walking around The Manga… its a part of our area that is pretty abandoned. We had no idea what we needed to do. I think we walked around for probably 30 min in complete silence. After this time we sat down because there was not anyone in the street it was a little bit hot and we didn´t have any water or anything. So we sat down and said a little prayer because we knew that we needed to find someone in this area. Because all 6 of the people that we were stopping lived in this area, leaving us with only 2 others to teach (I´m not quite sure if that makes sense). So we wanted to have another person in this area to make it easier and we prayed in this moment to find someone that had specific needs of the gospel. After we were done we walked for another 20 min and felt that we should knock on 2 doors specifically. The first was a huge slap in the face! This lady came out and had a whole bunch of naughty words to say to us… and I didn´t understand half of them but I know they were bad because the face of my companion changed after each one. So we were even more sad at this point. Finally we started talking and speaking and sharing what we learned in our personal study that morning because we had a zone conference to go to so we weren´t able to do companionship study. I studied Alma 32 and she studied 3rd Nefi 27. In 3rd Nefi 27, Christ is talking and is telling us what kind of people we should be, His answer was– “Even as I am.” In other words perfect. We started talking about this and about trials and why we have them and truth be told it was a pretty deep conversation in Spanish (Mom… you should be proud. Because I am!!!) We then started talking about humility. Why we think we need humility and trials and difficulties, well the answer is in the first part of Alma 32!!! We need difficulties so that the Lord can bless us and we can progress in our understanding of the gospel. It was so good!!!! Our studies were so in sync it was AWESOME!!! Anyways, we learned a lot. I know that the Lord is there for us when we need Him and even when we don´t. I know that the trials that we have are all so that we can learn and live better. So that we can have more experiences and differentiate between the good and the bad. I know that the world is a whole lot different than the mission. However this gospel can be applied to every situation and every trial and temptation. I know that the Savior lives, He is our Redeemer, He loves us and Atoned for us. We truly are sons and daughters of a Father in Heaven. He loves us and wishes for our happiness in this world.
I love you all so much.
Hola Mi Hermosa Familia!!
Bueno, this week has been a bit crazy! This week one of the sister missionary´s went home because she is super super sick. That part kind of stinks, we were a little bit emotional! PRAY FOR HERMANA HARMAN However, her companion Hermana Martin was with us for one week! We were a trio!!! IT WAS SO MUCH FUN!!! We were working in their area as well as in our own. I don´t think I´ve ever been that busy in my life! We also had divisions with the members so that we could work in both areas. But then we didn´t have a ton of time so we went on splits with 3 members. I HAD NEVER TAUGHT SOLO BEFORE THIS EXPERIENCE!!! It was definitely interesting. It was only for 3 hours but I about peed my pants in the first lesson. I was in one part of our area because this area is absolutely positively gigantic!! So I was in one part and Hermana Abanto was in another part of our area and Hermana Martin was in her area. We worked a ton. In her area she has a wedding as well as 3 baptisms. So for a week we also had a wedding to plan as well as 3 baptisms. So we were preparing for all of these things. (I´ll attach pictures) Also today we had Transfers!!! AAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! SABE QUE???? I´m with Hermana Abanto again!!! WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We were a little bit excited. Hermana Martin is now in her area again with a new companion (a newbie)!!! Her name is Hermana Cuautle. She is from Puebla Mexico and super sweet!! But we also miss Hermana Harman. 😢
And this brings me to what we are going to do this transfer… this transfer is about change. Change for the better. We are going to change to be better missionaries, we learned some new things in the conference with President Robinson a few weeks back and this transfer as well as last week we are implementing the changes in our teachings and it is so cool to see the difference. If I´ve learned anything these past few weeks is that change although it is super hard, it is so worth it! I know that the Lord has a plan for each of us. He is aware of our wants but knows what we need. He is kind and forgiving. He has given us the opportunity each week to start anew. We can live better and change sincerely by applying the Atonement in our lives. We have 2 of our investigators that are truly changing right now. Their names are Sofia and Maria Jesus. They each have their own problems and their own lives. However our teachings are the same. It is interesting however to see how they apply the teachings differently in their lives. Of course we try to bring the teachings back to relate to their lives, however they are the ones that apply it. If we really want to change. If we really want to feel better in this life about our situation, our past, our feelings, our faith, our beliefs, etc. we can do so. Heavenly Father has given us our agency and has given us a plan as well as a path to change and live better. We have only to choose to take it. The path that leads to healing, that leads to everlasting happiness in this life as well as in the next is only through our Savior, Jesus Christ. As we apply His teachings in our lives and help others recognize the blessings that this gospel brings through the “small and simple things” we can see the Lord´s love for us as well as for others. As we pray, as we fast, as we plead and beg for comfort and peace, He will give it to us but again, we need only to ask. I know that the Savior is truly our Redeemer.
As always I cannot thank you enough for this opportunity to serve in this mission. Thank you to all that are helping and blessing others here in Hermosillo. I hope you can feel the Savior´s love for you this week!
Con MUCHÍSIMO amor,
Well… another week that went by super stinking fast!!!
Firstly I love my companion so stinking much!!! She is such a champ. This week was a little bit difficult in finding people because TONS of people left town or were having a party or getting ready for one. Also was a little bit difficult. Mexico is SUPER fun for New Year´s Eve and Day. We also had a lesson with Pati the investigator that wants to go to the temple. She is struggling a little bit right now. We are praying so hard and trying to help her but sometimes its difficult because she isn´t really talking to us how she used to. Something changed and we´re not quite sure what. So if you would… pray for her. She is super awesome and her family too.
We also have another investigator Alejandra and her husband. They are also really cool. She is reading the Book of Mormon and told us she feels it is true. We are going to teach her a little bit more frequently. Its just kind of hard because she leaves town like all the time!! I swear… tons of those that are ready for the Gospel, Satan works soooooooooooooo stinking hard to put obstacles in their way. However the missionaries are stronger!!! If we are faithful we can conquer all that we are faced with.
I know this church is true. Sorry I don´t have a ton of time. I´´ll write next week more about what happened. Love you!!!
¡Hola mi familia!
Bueno… time is flying by!!! I can´t believe that we get to skype on FRIDAY!!! This week has been a little bit weird. We have been visiting Pitic (where the temple is at) quite a bit. We are in a choir with all of the missionaries in Hermosillo. Its part of our service project para Navidad.
We have some really cool investigators! One is a part member family.
They are so sweet. We are working with them so they can enter the temple. Its amazing to see the changes in people´s lives through this gospel. We also ofund some old investigators that the missionaries couldn´t find for about 4 years before us. They are also very sweet and I hope that they will want to progress in the gospel of Jesus Christ also.
We´ve been pretty busy preparing for Christmas but its kind of strange… it doesn´t really feel like Christmas. I am not quite sure if its a good thing or a bad thing. I miss the snow… but don´t think I could walk this much in it. The members and people here are so nice and many people have asked us if we have a place to go to talk to our families and everything. Although the week went by super fast I feel like we´ve grown a ton as well as the people here. I´m not quite sure if its because its Christmas and more people are open to messages about Jesus Christ but we´ve seen miracles!! We have truly seen the hand of the Lord in this work.
I don´t really have pictures for ya because we didn´t really take very many but tonight we have a conference with the whole mission. Its kind of cool… all of the missionaries in the Mexico Hermosillo Mission are going to meet tonight, learn more of this gospel and how we can be better missionaries as well as celebrate the birth of our Savior Jesus Christ. I´m a little nervous to talk to you all… I hope that I can speak clearly. I love you so much and wish you all a Very Merry Christmas! Remember…
“God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.”
Try to do one act of service to someone this week.
Pray daily, read daily.
And talk to me on Friday!!!
Merry Christmas! I love you all!!
Saludos mi familia!!
Well, this week went by super fast!!! We have been looking for new investigators and found 4 different people. They are super super cool!! One of them is super spiritual and talked to the misisonaries before and wants to be baptized but doesn´t have parent´s permission. Entonces… we are going to be working with her mom also!! She has a testimony seriously super strong and reads The Book of Mormon every day! When she shared her testimony with us, we started to cry. It was so spiritual. She wants with all her heart to be baptized. She knows that this is true, and although we just met her, our hearts ache because she can´t participate in the joy and peace and blessings that we have as members of this gospel. However she can participate in the joy and peace when she reads the scriptures. This is what I have been learning about this week. The power of scriptures. We teach about the Restoration (I think that´s how you spell that) in the first lesson and its amazing to see the reactions of people when we tell them that our Heavenly Father has given us more scripture for our learning and joy in this life. When we return in the second lesson and the people that have read bits of the book… they´re reactions are even better. They feel the Spirit and the love that Heavenly Father has for us. We find those feelings through the scriptures and through earnestly praying to our Father in Heaven. He is literally our Father, and He answers us— siempre. We have been learning a lot this week. We also went to the Dedication for the Temple in Tijuana. I love President Uchtdorf and Elder Oaks. I seriously learned so much. We are blessed with so many things in our lives. Things I think I took for granted for before. But I love this work and am so grateful for my Father in Heaven for teaching me and helping me in learning these lessons through this mission. I love the people here. They are definately different from Caborca… we are in the city now. But I feel the love that our Heavenly Father has for the people that we teach and its another testimony builder for me that this truly is the Church of Jesus Christ. He is the head and we are the instruments in His hands. A lot more has happened but I don´t have a ton of time… as usual. But I love you all and hope all is well with Grandpa and Grandma and all of you. Say your prayers… remember who you are… BE GOOD… MAKE RIGHT CHOICES… and remember Hermana Ashby LOVES YOU!!!
With love more than I can describe for you my dear sweet family, (and a head that´s hurting a bit with my Spanglish–sorry!)
